n Loving Memory of
Stonecroft Luna Elizabeth Thompson
2012-2026
Stonecroft Luna Elizabeth Thompson crossed the Rainbow Bridge, joining the paws of beloved pets who went before her.
Luna was born in Virginia to a strong bloodline of recognized Cane Corsos, paired with an attitude like no other and a nub wag that surely would have earned her a blue ribbon. She loved fiercely—even more so if doggie ice cream was involved. Luna had an unapologetic devotion to junk food, especially cheese balls and sliced cheese. One of her more infamous culinary adventures included cow patties shared in a field with former pals. Self-control was never part of her skill set.
An opportunist at heart, Luna had impeccable timing. She preferred to bark or suddenly need to go outside precisely when an important call began. She was a delivery-truck snob, favoring rides on the UPS truck over FedEx. She especially admired a man in a brown uniform—perhaps they carried better treats.
Despite being an obedience school dropout, Luna was quite the scholar and an accomplished speller. She knew hotdog, bully stick, outside, and treat. Her hearing, however, was highly selective and often failed when she had her heart set on reaching the creek for a good wade.
Luna was a constant companion to Debby in the shanty in Nashville and to Wes on the farm in Riceville. She was their first child, their learning experience, and their best friend.
From the moment she met Evie in the shanty, Luna knew she had found her human. Sharing bacon, goldfish, and willingly serving as the perfect Barbie stage became her life's calling. Luna taught Evie how to escape her crib and splash in mud puddles—but more importantly, Luna taught her the hardest lesson of all: the beauty of aging, embracing change, and accepting reality. All things must pass.
Luna did not share the same enthusiasm for her four‑legged sisters. She disliked sharing her space and once even left Emery behind at the fence post, running faster than she had in five years in a clear attempt at abandonment. Deep down, Luna knew that one day these substitutes would be needed when her work on earth was done. In time, she learned to tolerate them.
As she aged, long walks became short strolls, and promises of next summer turned into stories of summers past. Still, Luna remained a companion. She loved the sound of a car starting for a ride, the smell of the grill, and the comfort of the couch. Debby and Luna would sit beneath her favorite tree, watching clouds pass and talking about forever—both knowing the conversations were as much for the other as for themselves.
Luna is survived by her parents and sisters: Evie Noelle, Precious Peachy Buns, Stonecroft Emery Thompson, and Stonecroft Lily Thompson.
Forever loved. Forever missed.
