In Loving Memory of Cooper

Cooper came into our lives in 2011 at just 16 weeks old. Even though there were more than 50

dogs greeting us at the shelter that day, we never strayed from our goal of bringing home “Slick,”

whom we renamed Cooper.

From the very beginning, Cooper brought smiles and happiness back into the life of a child who

was mourning the loss of her beloved dog. Before long, he had stolen the hearts of every member

of our family—even Dad, whose first reaction upon seeing him was, “You brought a horse into

my house?”

And somehow, that “horse” became one of the greatest blessings our family could have ever

received.

For 15 years, Cooper filled our home with joy, laughter, love, and countless unforgettable

memories. Through health struggles and old age, he remained devoted to his family and never

wanted anything more than to please us. He was kind, gentle, loyal, and loving, giving us an

eternity of unconditional love.

The memories we have of him are endless, as are the goofy nicknames that became part of our

family’s everyday life—“Popper,” “Humphery,” and so many others.

Cooper, you would have stayed with us forever if you could. Watching you suffer at the age of

15 was unbearable, but we knew that letting you go was the greatest act of love we could give

you. You deserved to be free. You deserved to run again.

We hope that somewhere beyond this life, you are running through beautiful fields with that big

smile on your face, your ears flapping in the wind, completely free from pain and suffering.

We love you more than words could ever express. Your memory will live on in our hearts and in

our family forever. We were so incredibly blessed to have found you that day at the shelter, and

we will forever be grateful that you chose us as your family.

You may be gone from our home, but you will never be gone from our hearts. You can rest

peacefully now, knowing how deeply you were loved and how much you meant to all of us.

Always and forever, you will be “the bestest boy.”
