Basil came into our lives from the Raleigh County Animal Shelter in Beckley, WV in April 2013, just about 10 years ago and he was 2 at the time. We walked in to where the cages were, Carole walked up to him, put her hand down and he nuzzled his nose through the bars, rubbing her hand. Well, that was it, the rest is history. He was a wonderful companion for 10 years. He was the best dog. He was funny when he rolled around in the grass and leaves and he was happy. He would lay on his back wanting his belly rubbed. He loved car rides but didn't want to be left alone in the car. People loved to hear him bellow when we took him to Lowe's, the Co-op, the bank and everyone knew him there. He loved attention and everybody doted over him. He was loved by most everyone who saw him and they asked to pet him. He was the boss. He was much loved at a local thrift shop, especially by Carole (Not my wife). She contracted cancer some months ago and died in early January. I'm sure she met him with open arms.

Even though we got another beagle, Buster is not a replacement for Basil. He can not be replaced. He was the perfect dog and his death leaves a big hole in our hearts. A friend said as time goes on, the hole gets smaller but it never goes away. He'll be waiting for us when it's our time to go. What a joyous time that will be.
